Nguyen Van Nghi, MD, 1909 - 1999

Practicing medicine since 1940, Dr. Van Nghi is a world renowned teacher and practitioner of Classical Chinese medical theory. He is author of six books of Classical Chinese medicine and has spent many years translating the classical Chinese texts into French. He has been Director of the Revue Français de Médicine Traditionelle Chinoise since 1973, and is Founder or Honorary Member of many world acupuncture associations. Some of these honors include: Founder and Honorary President: Center of Teaching and Diffusion of Traditional Acupuncture; Founder and Honorary President: Association of Physician Acupuncturists of America; Vice President: World Federation of Acupuncture and Moxibustion Societies; Vice President and Founder: International Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Montreal.


Sean C. Marshall, DAc,
Lecturer, Writer, Audio/Video Engineer

Born in 1948 in Asheboro, North Carolina, Dr. Marshall has taught taijiquan and conducted a general acupuncture practice for over 25 years. For the last 15 years he has specialized in the treatment of gynecologic conditions by Chinese medicine. He graduated with honors from the Occidental Institute of Chinese Studies (Montreal) in 1978. He received his Master of Acupuncture from that institution in 1981. He has been a diplomate of the National Commission for the Certification of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine since 1986. He was certified by the British Acupuncture Association in 1987. In 1988 he was the 42nd recipient of the Doctor of Acupuncture degree from the British College of Acupuncture (London), the subject of his dissertation being Reproductive System Energetics.

Dr. Marshall has published and lectured widely in the United States, Germany, Austria, France, and England. He was founder and twice president of the Acupuncture Association of Minnesota. He is founder and president of Jung Tao School of Classical Chinese Medicine (1976).

He was Professor and Director of the Program in Chinese Medicine at Northwestern College of Chiropractic from 1987 to 1990, in which he implemented the expansion of the didactic curriculum and created the addition of a broad-based clinical internship component of that program. He has now returned to his native North Carolina in order to devote his energies to teaching, research, and producing a textbook and a computer based educational series in Chinese medicine.

Personal tutors in acupuncture have included: Nguyen Van Nghi, MD, Tran Viet Dzung, MD, Jean-Claud Darras, MD, Dr. Med. Hartwig Schuldt, Koji Okazaki, MD, OMD, and Wang Shih-chang, CA. Personal tutors in taijiquan were senior students of Cheng Man-ching: Fred Lehrmen, Tam Gibbs, Maggie Newman, Ed Young, and William C.C. Chen. He studied taiji sword with T. T. Liang.

The last 10 years have seen a concentration of Dr. Marshall's energy toward developing a computer based elaboration of Chinese medical theory. An accomplished artist and musician, he has composed the incidental music and created a series of original digital art works and animations specifically for this effort in Chinese medical education.

Dr. Marshall now lives and works in the Blue Ridge Mountains of northwestern North Carolina.


Tran Viet Dzung, MD
Lecturer, Writer

Currently the Faculty Member in Charge of Acupuncture at the University of Medicine in Nice, France, Dr. Dzung has been practicing medicine since 1970, and has been collaborating with Dr. Van Nghi for over 25 years. This collaboration has included the translations of the ancient Chinese medical texts into French, and serving as the Assistant Editor in Chief of the Revue Français de Médicine Traditionelle Chinoise since 1973. Dr. Dzung’s achievements include: Founding Member and President of the Association for Eastern Medicine; Founder and Member of Honor of the Association of Physician Acupuncturists of America; Member of Honor of the Medical American Academy of Acupuncture


Celeste Ray

Celeste Ray worked in the banking industry for seven years prior to joining the administration of Jung Tao School in 1996. During her time at Jung Tao, she has worked extensively in computer technology, including 2D, 3D, and 4D graphics, video editing and production, web design and implementation, database authoring and management, page layout, networking, and computer hardware and software maintenance. In addition to her work in the administration of the school, she is involved in the creation of educational materials for Jung Tao Productions.

Ms. Ray began studying taijiquan in 1994, and entered the acupuncture program at Jung Tao School of Chinese Studies in September 1995, from which she received a certificate of completion in 1998. She continues to study taijiquan, Daoist philosophy and Chinese medicine with Dr. Marshall, and also has an active interest in world mythologies, religions and philosophies.


Laura Campbell
Audio/Video Engineer, Illustrator, Page Layout

Laura Campbell has been actively working with the public for over sixteen years. During the past seven years, Ms. Campbell has gained management experience in both office and retail settings, developing staff training manuals, recycling and advertising programs. As manager of a fine arts gallery in Flagstaff, AZ, Ms. Campbell assisted numerous national and international artists, designers and collectors.

Ms. Campbell is also experienced with the photographic and apparel industries. As a customer service representative at one of the Southeast's premier commercial photo labs, Ms. Campbell assisted many professionals in their quest to provide for their clients. Working with the NC Museum of History and area designers, Ms. Campbell had the opportunity to both buy and sell at national trade shows, participate in acquisitions and assist in garment conservation and display.

As an Appalachian State University Chancellor's Scholar, Ms. Campbell received her BFA in 1992.


Twila Tuttle
Corporate Secretary, Sales, Marketing

Ms. Tuttle, a native of Minnesota, has a large background in public relations. Her experience with the public include working as a teaching assistant at Concordia College, from which she graduated in 1974; working with local farmers as a Grain Warehouse Examiner for the State of Minnesota; teaching beginning taijiquan classes; and managing a large chiropractic office in Vermont. Additionally, Ms. Tuttle was part of a committee responsible for organizing and administrating a large annual science fiction convention, where she served as treasurer.

In 1996 Ms. Tuttle moved to North Carolina to volunteer her efforts at a local animal sanctuary, where she continues to contribute her time. She is now the office manager at Jung Tao School of Classical Chinese Medicine.
